Lawyers are typically divided into two groups—litigation and transactional. At the end of litigation, one side is celebrating and the other is dejected. With transactional law, all sides are working towards the same end goal and when a deal comes together, everyone is a winner.

After twenty-five years of transactional experience, I have learned that the most valuable lessons arise from transactional failures. Sometimes it is a strategy that was not effectively implemented and other times there are personnel shortcomings. When I meet with clients, we always walk through this process with even the most straightforward contracts. Entrepreneurs by nature tend to be optimistic individuals. It is the role of legal counselor to articulate the risks involved with a venture and develop a mitigation strategy. At the same time, a strategy is needed to properly plan for circumstances when even the dreamiest of entrepreneurs far exceed their expectations.

Beyond the practice of law, I have also been an entrepreneur and a senior executive for other businesses. My wide array of experience in several industries are invaluable in helping clients navigate both calm and rough waters.

I graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Economics and History and received my J.D. from Boston University School of Law where I served as president of the Student Bar Association. I am admitted to practice in New York.
